Falcon 10X : The Ultimate Fusion of Luxury and Fighter Precision

You have one chance to make a good first impression, or so we hear. 

Well, the Falcon 10X made a spectacular debut the evening of March 10, 2026  emerging like a sleek runway model during Paris Fashion Week, but at an even more exclusive showing in Bordeaux Mérignac where it is built. 

Dassault Aviation, Chairman/CEO Eric Trappier called the 10X “our new bird, our future, aviation’s future.” Apt, because it introduces new technologies, new capabilities, and new safety features that will likely lead the industry for years to come. 

Five hundred visitors attended. Many took time to lounge in the 10X mockup while their actual flight attendants oohed and aahed opening all the galley storage cabinets. Still others hopped in the pilot seat and imagined smoothly guiding this big plane onto short and challenging runways, a Dassault specialty.

Nearby was a Rafale fighter, reminding visitors of the 10X’s fighter heritage. The words “game changer” were uttered by presenters and guests alike. Both 10X program test pilot Sebastien Dupont de Dinechin and Dirk Geisinger, CEO of Rolls-Royce Power Systems, the engine provider, mentioned the word “smoothness” in reference to what passengers would notice: Dupont de Dinechin noting the smoothness imparted by the fighter-inspired digital flight control system and Geisinger by the smooth and efficient engines. 

The Inside Story on the Biggest Cabin in Business Aviation

While the world has only just got a look at the 10X, the debut has been almost ten years in the making.

That process began with a lot of questions: among them, what was the optimal size, the best range, the right construction materials, the key ingredients for rest and work. 

For example, it would have been possible to build an aircraft with more than the 10X’s 7,500 nm range (even though that figure connects most global city pairs), but only with a smaller  “me-too” cabin size, similar to other offerings on the market.

Why go big?

Dassault was determined to create the ultimate long-range cabin (eight inches wider and four inches taller than the nearest competitor), yielding the best passenger experience over flights up to 15 hours. The purpose was not bragging rights. The purpose was to create a more homelike environment aloft. Size makes many things possible that weren’t before. 

For example, more interior design flexibility, with up to 100 possible floorplans and many other 3,000 customizable elements. The 10X is generally designed for three or four cabin zones, but these need not be uniform. Some can be longer—for an extended aft cabin or dining area. Some can be small and intimate for a cozy home theater. If you opt for a longer stateroom, you can enjoy a true stand-up shower with the now popular ain-flow type shower head—with two winAdows. 

It’s the first long-range jet with a true 60-inch queen size bed (no corners cut off for access to the bathroom). 

You can dine as if at home. Unlike competitors, there is space between seats to allow individual entry and exit. How thoughtful. And what wizardry can come out of the galley, with storage space for three meal services for eight passengers. The galley area also includes a comfortable and legal crew rest area. You might not want to stop en-route to pick up a fresh crew, so a third crew member has this space to meet all requirements for the longest flights. 

Alternatively, the space can be configured as a nice small lounge, a comfortable area for a flight attendant to relax or for a passenger to enjoy a coffee and snack in the kitchen, as at home. 

But achieving a really big cabin meant undertaking an extraordinary engineering effort. A big cabin, simply because of size, entails more weight and drag. Dassault largely offset that with a new composite wing (a traditional aluminum wing would have been too heavy, too draggy, and too flexible, which would have created hard to mitigate safety issues). It didn’t hurt that Dassault has forty years’ experience building composite fighter wings. The end result was a big, long-range jet that cruises up to .925 Mach, near the speed of sound and retains traditional Falcon short field capability. 

Some describe the 10X as the “Swiss knife of business aviation—in fact, one of those really big Swiss knives, with lots of useful features.” Some in the trade media, also cite utility, while further describing it as a penthouse in the sky.
